Recommendations to Mining Companies
- Embrace "Responsible Mining"*. Follow best practise. No double standards. (E.g., Practises acceptable in Australian deserts and the Canadian Arctic may not be appropriate in the Philippines).
- Use (a) Performance Bonds or (b) Insurance in your projects so that if tailings dams burst or poisons flow downstream, there is adequate money readily available to pay for rehabilitation and decommissioning.
- Respect "No Go Zones" to protect Indigenous Peoples, watersheds, biodiversity and food production.
- No riverine or marine tailings disposal. No use of mercury or cyanide upstream from food production areas. No acid mine drainage to be tolerated.
