Petition letter of support for Mindoro Hunger Strike against Mining

Dear President Gloria Magapagal-Arroyo,

I am personallyappealling to you:

In the name of allpeople of Mindoro that vehemently oppose the mining-related activities asreflected in the 25-year mining moratorium promulgated by both the ProvincialGovernments of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro;

In the name of theMangyan-Alangans and Mangyan-Tadyawans whose ancestral domain claims overlapwith the mining claim of INTEX Resources with local subsidiaries, AglubangMining Corporation and Alag-ag Mining; who never gave their free, prior andinformed consent; 

In the name of theAlangan and Tadyawan children whose cultural identity is threatened by thedestruction of the land that their parents consider their spiritual and phyicalsustenance;

In the name of thefarmers whose fertile lands that feed Southern Tagalog and Metro Manila arethreatened by siltation and flooding as an impact of the destruction of theMag-Asawang Tubig Watershed;

In the name of allMindorenos whose lives and livelihood depends on the integrity of Mag-AsawangTubig River, a geologically hazardous river that meanders with the movement ofthe Mindoro Fault;

In the name of allMindorenos whose access and utility of common resources such as water, riverand forest land  is threatened by insensible approval of componentprojects of the Mindoro Nickel Project without addressing possible impacts andmitigating measures;

In the name of 25individuals on hunger strike who have put their lives at stake for theirbeloved Mindoro against the long-term negative impacts of the Minodoro NickelProject;

In the name of allFilipinos whose vulnerability to climate change and extreme geological eventscould only be mitigated with science-based management and decision making;

In the name all Filipinochildren and all children of the world, who would look up to you ingratification if the unique biodiversity of the Island of Mindoro and VerdeIsland Passage is protected from the threats of mine-related forestdestruction, silts and mine tailings;

In the name oflogical thinking and uncorrupted judgement;

Please cancel the ECCof Intex Resources and leave a legacy for the environment.
