Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) expressed dismay at President Bongbong Marcos, Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) for its silence on environmental protection and the destructive impacts of mining.

Jaybee Garganera, ATM National Coordinator, said “We totally reject PBBM and his SONA because there is hardly any mention of planned programs and policies concerning the environment, and destructive mining. It is unacceptable that the PBBM administration fails to address the issues confronting mining-affected communities and the consequent devastation to the environment by expansive and rampant mining operations, including seabed quarrying and offshore mining.”

ATM joined progressive groups and civil society organizations in protest actions today to articulate the pressing concerns of marginalized communities and demand concrete actions and accountability from PBBM and government officials.
