ATM supports resistance against mining in Dupax del Norte

Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) extends its solidarity with the communities strongly resisting the planned mining operations in Dupax del Norte by Woggle Corporation.

We stand with concerned citizens and supporters against the Exploration Permit granted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) to the mining company.

Mining operations would put at great risk the water sources and biodiversity in the area, as well as the agricultural livelihoods of the residents. The pollution of rivers and irrigation systems would affect forests and farmlands that are needed for food production.

Mining would also negatively impact the cultural heritage and way of life of the Indigenous Peoples, whose Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) to mining operations is required by law.

We join the call for the revocation of any mining permits in the area, including Environmental Compliance Certificates. We demand that the Environment Code of Nueva Vizcaya, which prohibits destruction mining practices, be fully enforced. We call on concerned agencies to uphold national environmental protection laws.
