ATM Press Statement on the Retraction of Rafael Ragos

The retraction by Rafael Ragos of his statements accusing Sen. Leila de Lima of being involved in the drug trade, following the recantation of self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, is another proof that the charges against the senator are mere fabrications.
That Ragos was “coerced” into testifying against Sen. de Lima by no less than former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II is contemptible. Sen. de Lima has languished in jail for five years now, arguably for no reason except for being a harsh critic of the Duterte administration. The recantations so far, reinforce her innocence.
It is high time that justice be served immediately. We demand Sen. de Lima’s immediate release from prison.
